Journey Design
A First China Journey Should Be Edited Before It Is Expanded
Depth rarely comes from adding more cities. It comes from knowing what to leave out.
For a first journey to China, the instinct is often to add: more cities, more monuments, more meals, more movement. A better journey usually begins with editing. The route should explain itself. Beijing may hold imperial and institutional context; Xi'an may bring origin and archaeological depth; Shanghai may show contemporary rhythm; Chengdu may slow the pace through food and neighborhood life. The right route is not the longest one. It is the one that lets the traveler stay present.
